    Description

This is a replication ceramic bowl upon which is the rendition of a strange creature that has the tail of a lion and the feet and head of a bear.
The beast is exquisitely drafted and intricately painted.
The now extinct Mimbres culture circa 200 to 1150 AD would paint the natural world around them on small to medium sized ceramic bowls.
Although this bowl is only a fantastic replication of the original, it has the appearance of an authentic artifact emerged from the bowels of the earth from a distant time. We cracked, chipped, and abraded the rim, and then completed it with a “kill hole.”
Mrs. Coral and Mr. Starling Black handcrafted and painted “Strange Creature” in a small studio in the White Mountains of Arizona probably not far from where the Mimbres originally created it so many years ago. At Starling Black Studio, we strive to preserve the prehistoric arts by recreating replications of original artifacts from extinct cultures.
Our pieces are not only affordable, but also available. If you love archeology and have an appreciation for the raw appearance and beauty of the primitive arts you will not be disappointed with our work; our replications exude a pureness and authenticity born of our love, passion, and appreciation for these pieces. Thank you for looking.
