Handmade Rainbow Sheen Obsidian Arrowhead

Description

Obsidian is glass that is formed naturally in volcanos. It ranges from clear to jet black and may include reddish brown colors from impurities containing iron. Double flow and triple flow show two or three colors swirled in a random flow pattern. Some obsidian will have gas trapped in thin layers which will give it a gold or silver sheen when light strikes it at the correct angle. Rainbow obsidian has either a thin (nano-particle thin) layer of magnetite or hedenbergite that cause thin film interference (the same kind of rainbow you see on a soap bubble). The sheen is not trick photography or computer fakery, it is a trick of light that only requires a source of light, the sun or any strong flashlight will work, and holding the piece at the correct angle. I bought this obsidian, but I am planning a trip to California to collect some for myself.
3.38 inch spear point. The obsidian is rainbow sheen, but I could not capture the rainbow with my camera, thus I am selling at the cheaper, more common obsidian price.
I make all of my points by hand using traditional methods. These are not ancient artifacts.
