Description
Leather Slit PouchSlit pouches were elongated leather bags that American Indians wore suspended by a waist belt or sash during the 18th and early 19th century. The pouches have a simple slit opening that is closed by positioning it against the body of the wearer. These pouches were used to carry hunting, camping, and other supplies, much as would be a more conventional bag or hunting pouch. Some were very plain and utilitarian. Others were elaborately decorated with quillwork, beeds, hair-cones, paint, etc.
Our leather slit pouch is made of genuine brown leather and has a slit opening on one side. It can be worn as-is, or decorated to suit the wearer's taste or in emulation of historical examples.
