Vintage Native American Indian Chief Alligator Tooled Leather Folder Folio

Description

This is a vintage tooled leather folder or folio with a Native American Chief on the front.
Most of the folders I have seen like this are Italian, though it is not marked.
I believe it dates circa 1920s or 1930s, but please use your judgment.
The folder measures 8 inches high x 6 inches wide (20.3 cm x 15.2 cm).
The leather has been tooled to look like alligator skin.
It reads on the front:
INDIAN CHIEF
THE OLDEST INHABITANT.
The piece is in fairly poor condition. Fortunately, you can still see the excellent detail on the Chief.
I believe it was meant to hold papers, notes or letters. It was probably a desk item.
