vintage Polk Audio Monitor 1" dome tweeter 1986—for Monitor 4 (4A) 4.5—excellent

Offered for your consideration is a
Polk Audio
1 inch dome tweeter
removed from my Monitor 4 speakers (technically 4A, but not marked as such after 1985), manufactured c.1986.  This high frequency driver was also used in the same era Monitor 4A and 4.5.
*It should be noted that this is not the correct tweeter for the original Polk Monitor 4 which used a heavier, Peerless-made tweeter with large metal faceplate, nor is it correct for the later Monitor 4 Series 2 speakers.
So, please have a look at the large photos that I’ve taken and read the remaining description to decide if this capable Polk tweeter should be yours.

This Polk tweeter is in clean, excellent condition.  The dome is in perfect condition, well-protected by the acoustically transparent grate.  Plus, there aren’t any cracks or notable scratches on the plastic faceplate and there’s only minimal oxidation on the sizable magnet structure.  And, the +/- terminals are keyed for polarity (red dot = pos) and have never been soldered on the spades.  Overall, this tweeter is very nicely preserved.
Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds terrific—very clear and detailed, with plenty of beyond-audibility “sparkle” at the impressive 25kHz rating Polk gives.  Plus, DC resistance tested at 3.8Ω consistent with a 4 ohm nominal driver rating.  Lastly, the faceplate measures 3” square, it stands roughly 1” tall including the slightly protruding grate, and the mounting hole distances are 2½” adjacent / 3⅝” diagonal, c-t-c.
This is a nice find for someone that has a blown or damaged dome tweeter in their Polk Monitor 4/4A or the uncommon Monitor 4.5.  And, since this tweeter is long discontinued, it’d make a smart spare to have socked-away for the future.
