    Description

Offered for your consideration is a vintage
    Stromberg-Carlson
    12 inch woofer
, USA-manufactured c.1965.  Please have a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this uncommon Stromberg-Carlson woofer should be yours.
This Stromberg-Carlson woofer is in clean, good condition. The sturdy, textured paper cone and large voice coil dustcap are flawless
    aside
from the obvious puncture repair.  I believe the repair occurred during speaker assembly, necessitated by a line worker hurridly jabbing the woofer on a mounting screw when installing it, and then sealing the hole with cloth patch and glue.  In the days when many speaker grilles were
    not
removable, repairs of this nature were fairly common.  The consumer was never going to see it, so "...why waste a perfectly functioning woofer over a minor cosmetic flaw" was the logic.
What’s more, the basket is in nice shape with no dings or scratches, just the typical white oxidation on the back side that galvanized steel frequently gets over time.  And, the +/- terminals are handy screws instead of the typical male spades. I realize the cone patch will put some potential buyers off, but perhaps not as much if they’ve been looking for this scarce woofer for some time?  After all, if the woofer is installed in a speaker with a fixed grille, the repair patch will be forgotten about pretty quickly.
More importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds very strong and clear with clear, detailed lower midrange and solid low-end response.  Plus, I tested its DC resistance at 9.6Ω, consistent with, but on the low end, of a nominal 16 ohm driver rating. I wouldn’t hesitate to pair it with an 8 ohm woofer reading 7.5 or above in resistance.  Lastly, the mount flange measures 12¼” in diameter, it stands 4¼” tall, and the eight mount holes are equally spaced 4½” apart, c-t-c.
So, as pictured and described, this Stromberg-Carlson 12” woofer is offered at a reasonable price.

*The woofer will have a piece of double-walled cardboard secured over the cone with wire ties at four mounting holes. Then it’ll be wrapped with a protective sheet and placed in a sturdy box with shock-absorbent materials. This will ensure the cone, surround, and terminals are fully protected, and that there are no disappointments!
